4 Books Everybody in Crypto Should Read
“Mastering Bitcoin” by Andreas Antonopoulos
Acclaimed information-security expert, Andreas Antonopoulos, gives a sweeping overview of the Bitcoin ecosystem, while giving precious detail in an easy-to-read manner. He explains Bitcoin and blockchain as an elegant digital organism brilliantly put together. The author discusses each of the system’s components, how they fit to one another and how this decentralized, borderless, pseudonymous, and highly secure system works. Andreas also gives suggestions on how to secure your crypto-wealth, even providing ways of leaving it to the family in the event of death of the owner.
The title sums it up accurately: Mastering Bitcoin encompasses pretty much all there is to know about Bitcoin in a single volume.
“Digital Gold” by Nathaniel Popper
This book is standing out among other recently published books about Bitcoin in one important area: This one is the result of genuine journalism. The author is not aiming to attract the techie crowd or investors that want to make fortunes. Nathaniel Popper does a very good job of investigating all the key people (even Satoshi himself) and putting events in a timeline starting from day one back in early 2009. Digital Gold is an example of very fine writing and detailed reporting of the Bitcoin subculture. So this is definitely not another book to learn how to mine bitcoins or where to buy them.
“The Internet of Money” by Andreas Antonopoulos
While many books explain how Bitcoin works, The Internet of Money delves into why Bitcoin works (so well) and why Bitcoin is so important. Andreas Antonopoulos examines and contextualizes the significance of Bitcoin through a series of essays spanning the exhilarating maturation of this technology.
Beyond the more pragmatic applications of cryptocurrency for the millions of unbanked around the world, Andreas also discusses philosophic on deeper topics such as the history of money, the role cryptocurrency can play for individual sovereignty and privacy, and the implications of currency as language, where currency transfer is, at its core, an expression of value akin to speech.
